Please note there’s been a revision and updates to the pattern since posting!

I recently began making a top with the Lion Brand Jeans yarn, and simultaneously started making a wrap. Who makes just one project at a time anyway? Not me – hehe! This wrap turned out to have incredible drape and it’s an easy, peasy crochet pattern.  If you’ve never tried to crochet a bias shawl or scarf, this is a super simple project for a first timer.  The stitch count stays the same for each row and you make simple increases and decreases on either side to achieve the bias look.  This piece is so airy and breezy for summer!

Using double and treble crochet stitches, this wrap works up quickly and it’s also lightweight. It’s easy to fold up and haul in your bag while travelling this summer.  The Lion Brand Jeans yarn (here) is incredibly soft and feels amazing on the skin. There aren’t very many acrylic yarns that I would use for summer pieces, but I don’t hesitate to use Jeans.  You might remember that I used it for my Easy Boxy T Shirt Knitting Pattern (here) and Azul V Mesh Crocheted Poncho Pattern (here).

I love the contrast of the long treble crochet stitches with the tight, puffy bobble stitches.  The colors can go with so many outfits, but you can certainly pick any other two colors that you like as well.  It’s too bad you can’t reach through the screen to feel how soft this is! If you’d like to use it as a swimsuit cover-up,  a light drapey, cotton yarn would be wonderful to use.Santa Monica Bias Wrap Crochet Pattern – Mama In A Stitch - image Biased-Crochet-Summer-Wrap-Pattern-2-913x1024 on https://knitting-crocheting-yarn.com

It had to be named something that fit an on-trend wrap that was suited for a warm, pretty place.   I went with “Santa Monica” as it’s such a hip location, full of beautiful style and sunny days.

It definitely looks and feels like spring here today, and I’m so excited for summer!  How about you? I’m telling you, the winters are too long in Colorado.

Below: The two colors worked really well together.

Friends!! While this wrap is fairly simple, it could be made even simpler by sticking with ONLY double crochet stitches throughout the pattern.  Essentially, you would work rows 1 – 3, and then repeat rows 2 and 3, in that order, until the wrap is as long as you’d like. You can make color changes whenever you want to add some stripes! If you’re more adventurous, you can tackle this pattern which includes easy bobbles/popcorn stitches and treble crochet stitches.
